Sunday in the Park with George

I don't expect many people reading this to get the musical reference of the title, but it is making me smile anyway!

Today we had people over for lunch and this afternoon we traipsed up to the park with our little one and their two. George enjoyed the swings, as usual, and was being very over-confident on the slide - he managed to climb nearly to the top of the big one before we decided to grab him back down. But of course, the highlight of the trip was the large numbers of dogs around - much pointing and shouting, and some running off in search of a closer look.

I Want to Ride My Bicycle...

A few days ago we "liberated" a bicycle-on-a-stick from my friend Sarah's house - it belonged to her little boy Toby, who is now 10 years old. It's a little rusty and I had to spend the evening cleaning the mud off of it, but George is very excited by it. I took him all the way to nursery on it this morning, and he was really showing off, looking around and grinning all the time.
His feet don't quite reach the pedals yet - although that might be a good thing as they spin round pretty quickly when I am pushing it at normal walking pace.

We are sailing

Today we went on a day trip to France - slightly curtailed by pesky french people on strike causing delays, but successful in terms of bringing back large quantities of cheap wine, strange beer and smelly cheese.

George had a great time walking around the ferry, and coped amazingly well with the floor moving! He was pretty good in the car too, sleeping for most of the journey in both directions, and even tolerating being stuck inside it on the dockside at Calais after we discovered that there are pretty much no facilities there to make a two-hour wait even vaguely pleasant.

This is the way we...

...clean our teeth!

Well, it's the way George does it - and he seems to have loads of them all of a sudden. I have no idea when they arrived, but there they are all shiny and white and needing to be brushed.
Heaven forbid he should end up with teeth as bad as mine!

These Boots Were Made for Walking

Buoyed by the purchase of his new shoes, George actually walked properly for the first time today. He has been doing a few steps here and there, but today I counted 13 - and he has done that more than once. So now of course I feel bad for not buying him shoes before, in case that has been holding him back!

One, Two, Buckle My Shoe

Well, "Velcro My Shoe" might be more accurate. We bought his first pair of shoes today - known as "cruisers" apparently because he isn't quite walking yet. And the nice shop lady took a photo of him trying them out.
