This is the way we...

...clean our teeth!

Well, it's the way George does it - and he seems to have loads of them all of a sudden. I have no idea when they arrived, but there they are all shiny and white and needing to be brushed.
Heaven forbid he should end up with teeth as bad as mine!

These Boots Were Made for Walking

Buoyed by the purchase of his new shoes, George actually walked properly for the first time today. He has been doing a few steps here and there, but today I counted 13 - and he has done that more than once. So now of course I feel bad for not buying him shoes before, in case that has been holding him back!

One, Two, Buckle My Shoe

Well, "Velcro My Shoe" might be more accurate. We bought his first pair of shoes today - known as "cruisers" apparently because he isn't quite walking yet. And the nice shop lady took a photo of him trying them out.

Daddy's Little Helper

Yesterday George was actually wearing a top which said that on it - but it also has pictures of tools on it, so I presume it refers to DIY. Not very relevant in this house because Daddy doesn't do DIY - although it is true that if he does attempt such a thing he needs all the help he can get!

But today we did manage to keep baby G amused for a few minutes by having him help Daddy make the roast dinner. It's still in the oven at the moment so I can't say if it was a success, but I have high hopes.

It's Saturday, no school today...

As part of our ongoing campaign to have a clean and tidy house at least once a week, this morning I took George out for a few hours so that David could do the aforementioned cleaning and tidying.

We ventured into the local "One o'clock Club" for their saturday morning session of messy play - supposedly for dads, but of course still mostly full of mums. George made a half-hearted attempt at colouring in a dragon in honour of the Chinese New Year, but was more interested in trying to get hold of the tubes of sparkly glue which the older children were using. There was a corner for babies though (complete with mini ball pool) so we made the most of that, and read a few books, and I think he had a good time. Bizarrely they also have a child-sized telephone box, of the old-fashioned red sort, which was a big hit with all the kids. Many of them were rather bemused by little George crawling in under their feet and stealing the phone from them.

On the way home we stopped briefly in the playground, where I was pleased to note that George's early exposure to swings doesn't seem to have put him off them.

It's a Steep Learning Curve

Well, no major developments this week - just George's first bad cold, poor thing. But I am noticing some little indications of how much he is learning about all sorts of different things.

He can now walk holding on to his trolley of bricks, without any additional support - so long as someone is on standby to turn it around at the end of the room, and to readjust the trajectory when he goes slightly astray and wedges himself against the furniture.

Today he brought me one of his shoes, which had come off (nothing new there) and I said "if you want me to put it back on, you will have to give me your foot" - in response to which he lifted up his foot - and it was even the right foot, the one with no shoe on.

Yesterday I swear he was trying to say "duck" when he was in the bath - it was a sort of "da du" - which would make sense because I normally say "duck duck" for some reason!

I am really working on his first word being "book" - and I think he is almost there with that too; he certainly has the "b" and has on occasion used it appropriately. But possibly just coincidentally.

In his favourite bedtime book, when I say "meow" he points to the picture of the cat.

Since he seems to hate me doing the washing up, and stands pulling on my trouser leg and moaning at me - which is very wearing - I have started putting him up on a chair next to me (tied on to it) so that he can see what I am doing. This makes him much less moany, and he has been helping me by putting things from the side into the water.

He is now strong enough to push the button on the "Wheels on the Bus" book which makes the tune play - and he recognises the tune when it plays elsewhere, or when someone sings it, and he looks around for the book.

And, as well as learning how to clap, he now recognises the word "clap" and will do it on demand. At last, my baby can do a trick!

Day Out with Mummy

It was my turn to keep George out of the house for a while, so that David could do some tidying and cleaning. I'm not sure who got the best deal, because George was in a pretty grumpy mood all day - he has a bit of a cough and cold so isn't at his best.

We went to the Museum in Docklands - which just happens to be close to the shops at Canary Wharf (yummy Waitrose food and Krispy Kremes to boot).

Luckily the museum was pretty empty, so I let him crawl around some of the exhibits. And we did quite a bit of walking practice as well, with me holding only one of his hands - great progress.
